Alaska Scholarships
Alaska Conservation Foundation Denny Wilcher Award
Every year this award is given to an Alaskan high school senior who has been active on environmental issues. AYEA members have won the award four of the last six years! Click here for more info.
June Nelson Memorial Scholarship
Association of Alaska School Boards (AASB) will award 10 Alaska students $1,000 toward post secondary education. Deadline to apply was March 22. Click here for more info.
National Scholarships
Mario Savio Young Activist Award
This award is presented to a young person (or persons) with a deep commitment to human rights and social justice and a proven ability to transform this commitment into effective action. The nominees should have demonstrated leadership ability, creativity and integrity. Nomination deadline is July 31. Annie’s Sustainable Agriculture Scholarships
Annie’s Homegrown awards monetary scholarships up to $10,000! Undergraduate and Graduate.
Captain Planet Foundation Grants for Youth
This program supports hands-on environmental projects for children and youth to work individually and collectively to solve environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities. Deadlines every three months; March 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31.
Morris K. Udall Scholarship
$5,000 scholarship for students pursuing careers related to the environment or tribal health care/public policy. The Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. The Foundation also seeks Native American/Alaska Native students pursuing careers related to tribal public policy or Native American health care. To be eligible for the Udall Scholarship, you must be nominated by your institution’s faculty representative – we recommend getting in touch with yours as soon as possible. AYEA grads have won this scholarship!
Dr. Wes Ekenfelder Jr. Scholarship
Enrolled Junior undergrad or graduate student. Declared major in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering or one of the environmental sciences.
ESA Grants for Youth Programs
The ESA Foundation is dedicated to supporting geographically diverse projects and programs that benefit American youth (ages 7 to 18) of all races and denominations and make a difference in the quality of their life, health and welfare. Deadline to apply is April 15.
Brower Youth Awards
To celebrate young environmental outstanding leaders that work on projects with positive, measurable impact. For six winners, the award includes $3,000 prize, camping trip to Yosemite, trip to CA for the Awards Ceremony, and organizing resources through Earth Island Institute in leadership development. Must be between 13 and 22. Application accepted January through May. Winners announced in October. AYEA grads have won this award!
Yoshiyama Awards
Sponsored by the Hitachi Foundation, honors up to 10 high school seniors for their community service. Those selected will be awarded up to $5,000 each year over 2 years. Deadline is April 1.
The Wild Gift Project
A $10,000 – $15,000 award for five people ages 21 -30 doing environmental work. The award also consists of a 20-day wilderness hike in Alaska or Idaho. People apply to the program by outlining a proposal for a year-long project that has a goal to advance sustainability. The award goes towards paying a stipend and supporting project expenses. Deadline is April 1.
Youth Service America Youth Venture Program to Support Community Service Programs
The YSA Youth Venture Program provides funding and support to young people (ages 12-20) in the United States who want to create new, sustainable, civic-minded organizations, clubs, or businesses (called “ventures”).
Key Change Grants
from DoSomething.org are for youth (teens through 25) who are doing something noteworthy with music in their communities. DoSomething.org and the GRAMMY Foundation® are looking for young people who have an idea or existing project that uses music to make a difference. You could win up to $3000 for your project and a trip to the GRAMMY® Awards. Deadline is December 15, 2009. Winners will be notified January 9, 2009.

Teach Something Grants
from DoSomething.org: Do you want to improve education in your community? Do Something and Tutor.com are offering $500 grants for your ideas or projects that make a difference around education issues. We’re giving out ten $500 grants for education projects. Deadline is December 15, 2009. Winners will be announced February 1, 2009.
Seed Grants
from DoSomething.org: Are you working on a sustainable community action project, program or organization? Do you need $500 to further the growth and success of your program? If you answered, “YES!”, you are eligible to apply for a Seed Grant. Seed grants are given out weekly. Yep, that’s right–we said WEEKLY! Rolling Deadline.
Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund
has applications available for student activists who are building the progressive movement and will be enrolled in school during the 2010-11 academic year. Since 1961 the Davis-Putter Fund has provided need-based grants to students who are involved in building movements for social and economic justice and are able to do academic work at the college level. Grantees are both graduates and undergraduates enrolled in accredited schools for the period covered by their grant. The maximum grant is $10,000 and may be considerably smaller depending on the applicant’s circumstances and the funding available. All the funds come from individual donors and there are 25-30 grants awarded each year. Grants are for one year although students may re-apply for subsequent years. Applications and the supporting documents — transcripts, a personal statement, two letters of recommendation, a photograph, financial aid reports — must be postmarked by April 1, 2010. Those selected to receive a grant will be notified in July.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
The purpose of the Foundation is to provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue careers in these fields.

American Meteorology Society Scholarships
For graduate and undergraduate students pursuing a career in the atmospheric and related oceanic or hydrologic sciences.
