April 16-18, 2010 twenty youth from ten different communities gathered in beautiful Hatcher’s Pass, Alaska (2 hours north of Anchorage) to learn the Truth About Coal development in Alaska and how to take action to protect the health of our communities and ecosystems.

Youth participants at the Coal Summit learned about the connection between coal development in Alaska and climate change, fish habitat, and human health. Participants aquired skills in analyzing complex environmental issues, identifying solutions, and developing campaigns in response to these environmental threats.

The Summit consisted of workshops on campaign planning, messaging, letter writing, and social media tools; as well as a field-trip to the proposed coal mine near Wishbone Hill in the Mat-Su Valley.
