“Right now, we are mainly working on the local foods cookbook that AYEA is publishing. FAYEA has played a large role in the project: the idea came from its original plan to educate Alaskans on gardening through a cookbook. The group is now working with [AmeriCORPS Youth Leadership Specialist] Liz Allard and statewide AYEA to gather materials and begin laying them out into a single document. The process has been challenging and a little frustrating, as submissions are not always pouring in and other materials to fill up the cookbook must be found. However, FAYEA recently came in contact with a UAF student who is interested in helping with the project. It is exciting to take advantage of this assistance and make the workload a little bit easier!
“We’re not sure what FAYEA will be focusing on after the cookbook is completed, but we’re currently brainstorming for action ideas.”
Thanks for the update, Shannyn!
