Chapter update: FAYEA

Shannyn Bird, the vice president and secretary of FAYEA, shares what the chapter has been up to since the Fall Summit.

“Right now, we are mainly working on the local foods cookbook that AYEA is publishing. FAYEA has played a large role in the project: the idea came from its original plan to educate Alaskans on gardening through a cookbook. The group is now working with [AmeriCORPS Youth Leadership Specialist] Liz Allard and statewide AYEA to gather materials and begin laying them out into a single document. The process has been challenging and a little frustrating, as submissions are not always pouring in and other materials to fill up the cookbook must be found.¬†However, FAYEA recently came in contact with a UAF student who is interested in helping with the project. It is exciting to take advantage of this assistance and make the workload a little bit easier!
“We’re not sure what FAYEA will be focusing on after the cookbook is completed, but we’re currently brainstorming for action ideas.”

Thanks for the update, Shannyn!
