In 2005, Gavin got involved with Anchorage AYEA’s Air Quality Campaign, as well as a the chapter’s fundraiser for Banda Aceh Tsunami victims through the organization Solace International. In 2007, Gavin worked as an AmeriCorps AYEA Crew Leader the inaugural year of the Youth Employment in Parks program. He continued to work there the following year as a Crew Leader when the program grew to 50 employees.
Gavin graduated from Chico State this May with a degree in Project Management, and minors in Entrepreneurship and Managing for Sustainability. In college, Gavin helped plan the This Way to Sustainability Conference at Chico State, one of the largest student run sustainability conferences in North America. (1800 attendees) They featured guest speakers Derrick Jensen, Captain Paul Watson, and many other quality speakers, as well as prominent attendees (Darryl Hannah of all people!)
Last Summer he worked for the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium Department of Environmental Health and Engineering (ANTHC-DEHE). He worked on project management and environmental permitting on the Water Source, Treatment and Distribution system in Goodnews Bay, Alaska. Gavin was named the Chairman of the Department Green Team, and performed a sustainability audit of the office with anticipated annual savings of $8,000 a year, as well as many tons of GHG, thousands of pounds of paper, and a few thousand gallons of water a year. They were awarded a Greenstar award this year.
Go Gavin!
