Staff

AYEA teen leaders are supported by two full-time program staff and seasonal interns. Staff coordinate youth trainings, raise funds for AYEA activities, facilitate strategic planning, and connect youth and adult leaders throughout the state. Staff uphold AYEA’s values and focus on youth empowerment and youth-adult collaboration at all levels of the program. If you are a young person (teen or young adult) seeking employment and would like to be considered for one of AYEA’s seasonal positions, please contact Megan McBride at (907) 339-3907 or mcbridem(at)ayea.org.

Shannon grew up in Anchorage and is a West High AYEA graduate. After graduating with a degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana in Missoula, she came back to AYEA because of the tremendous impact the program had on her as a teen.

In 2007, Shannon helped coordinate the first environmental education and leadership workshops for the Youth Employment in Parks program.  Shannon now supports AYEA chapters and coordinates trainings, along with AYEA’s new green jobs components.

Shannon is passionate about connecting youth empowerment with environmental equity and food justice. She has previously worked for Food & Water Watch, the Real Food Challenge, and Alaska Community Action on Toxics. During college she studied human rights in Guatemala, wilderness leadership in New Zealand, food policy in Washington, DC. and alternatives to globalization in Chiapas, Mexico. She believes teenagers will save the world.
