Conservation Internship Program 2010
This annual summer program is specifically targeted toward students who plan a career path in conservation and are willing to make a long-term commitment to preserving and protecting the pristine environment and diverse cultures of Alaska. Undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent grads are invited to apply for summer internships with an array of conservation organizations in Alaska. All internships are 12 weeks with a stipend of $4,000. Applications are due Feb. 15, 2010, and has an AYEA/Alaska preference!

- Student Education Specialist: The Alaska Region has an exciting new developmental opportunity for a Masters Degree student in the field of Natural Resources, Environmental Education, Interpretation, or Education. Prince William Sound Science Center, Cordova
- Environmental Education Intern: This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in outdoor environmental and science education. We provide a variety of summer educational programs to youth and audiences of all ages, including day and overnight science camps for youth, field courses for high school students, and community events. Program emphases include Alaskan coastal ecosystems, wetlands ecology, and climate change. The intern will be actively involved in all aspects of our summer programs, including assisting education staff with program planning, teaching and supervising youth, and logistics support. The position involves long hours, living and working outdoors, and vigorous physical activity (heavy lifting, hiking, etc.). Depending on the intern’s experience and interests, he/she may also have the opportunity to take leadership in special projects such as coordinating community events or developing “green” initiatives for our field camp. Youth Employment in Parks , Anchorage
This annual summer program is run in partnership by AYEA and the Municipality of Anchorage’s Parks & Recreation Division. Seasonal positions include Youth Crew Leaders (age 21+) and Field Educators (age 21+). Applications are generally available in December and accepted through February or March. Ongoing Internships
Trustees for Alaska: Legal Internships – Trustees for Alaska is a nonprofit, public interest, environmental law firm based in Anchorage. Every summer they offer environmental law internships and externships to interested law students who have a demonstrated commitment to the public interest and the environment. Second and third-year law students with coursework in administrative and environmental law are preferred. Find out more online.
State Legislature College Interns – Spend a semester working in the Alaska State Legislature in Juneau, earn $5,000, get airfare and a relocation allowance (except Juneau students), and earn 12 hours of upper-division credits (9 for grad students). You’ll have a first rate academic and practical experience plus you’ll make valuable contacts. Defenders of Wildlife: Legal Internships - Defenders of Wildlife offers Internship positions in our Legal division for highly qualified individuals with a commitment to a career in wildlife conservation. Applicants should be current law students with an interest in environmental law. They must have strong writing, research, media, and communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to the conservation of biological diversity and protection of wildlife. Tribal Energy Student Internship Program
Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs Larry Echo Hawk today announced that the Indian Affairs program to recruit and train American Indian and Alaska Native postsecondary students in the field of energy and natural resources management is accepting applications for twelve internships in its 2010 class. The application deadline is March 15 for an internship period beginning May 25 through August 6.

Sierra Club: Internships – San Francisco, CA.
The Sierra Club is one of our nation’s largest grassroots conservation organizations. Interns are selected on the basis of their interests, education and experience in political science, environmental studies, natural resources, history, law, journalism, computer science or other related fields. We especially seek interns who have been directly involved in conservation work and have good communication and writing skills. Our normal intern rotations are in the fall, winter/spring, and summer but we are flexible with other starting dates.
